System restore process takes a long time
Last week i need to format my pc, and reinstall the same vista. But now, i'm not able to install the media restore pack. There seems to be no clue as to which drive has the Vista installation so that I can choose the other one to format and install XP. (Installing XP after Vista can really mess things up. Take the master drive out of the computer (with Vista), make the slave drive a master. Install XP on it.

Start a new install with Vista, when it takes you to the screen with a few install options, there should be a button for either "Advanced" or "Other Options" or something similar on, I believe, the lower right of the screen. Click that and you will see options to delete partitions, create new ones and format.

I always get this error when I use the Vista setup to format the drive. It comes up during the first step after selecting the drive. The only instruction is to try again. I did find SWISSKNIFE, and used that to format the drive with NTFS. When I tried the Vista install afterwards, it almost worked.

I made a clean install instead of making a real upgrade where my settings are kept, so I really don't understand why You ave to format the drive after recovering and move the data back! If you boot Win2K, can you see and access the new Vista partition on the SATA drive? That would tell you the SATA drivers on the install DVD are working, at least. BTW, did you format the Vista partition from Win2K? You should let the Vista installer format its own partition in any case -- that's important.
